Have you ever came across such a creative writing prompt that made you picked up the nearest pen to transcribe your thoughts onto paper?
I have.
“Write a eulogy for a sandwich, to be delivered while eating it.”
Egg-n-cheese,
First and foremost, the loose definition of a sandwich is at least a piece of bread and fillings. When I was in primary school, my mother used to make sandwiches for breakfast by spreading butter and sugar onto the bread and putting them into the sandwich maker. She also recreated the doner kebab sandwich to my request. The food was, of course, delicious, but it is the love she puts in cooking every dish that matters more. I am grateful for my parents who always do their best to help us live our best life. In fact, if they had never supported me to study in the United States, I would have yet to meet you.
I have taken a recent affinity toward you. I am glad to have given you a chance to prove your worth, despite what I have heard about you every now and then. Sometimes, you have to give others a chance to see for yourself who they really are.
Back to the concept of a sandwich – the type of bread that I have always associated with a sandwich is slices of bread cut from a loaf, not slices of English muffin. In my freshman year, I ignored the breakfast sandwich section as I chose not to betray my definition of a sandwich. However, I have come to accept that any kind of bread would help a particular sandwich shine in its own way.
So, “Egg-n-cheese,”
“American bagel (English muffin, to be accurate), Cheese, and Egg”
I would like to say thank-you to the person who fried the egg (and the one to put the sandwich together). Fried egg reminds me of one of my favorite dish at home – warm sticky rice with crispy, fried egg and soy sauce. When you live far away from your family, the little things remind you that home is always close – it lies in your heart.
Thank you to all who have made these mentioned ingredients present today.
Dear sandwich, thank-you for being excellent at keeping me full until lunchtime. Godspeed.
